Bollywood is all set to welcome another big festive release with Thama, an upcoming Hindi romantic comedy with a supernatural twist. What makes Thama extra special is that it’s part of the popular Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe, which already gave us hits like Stree, Roohi, and Bhediya. But this time, the makers are adding a fresh angle – instead of relying only on folklore, the movie dives into the world of vampires and mythical creatures.

Development

The film was first announced in June 2024 under the working title Vampires of Vijay Nagar. Later, it was rebranded as Thama to give it a catchier, more mysterious appeal. Fans first got a hint about it in the post-credit scene of Stree 2, which teased its arrival in the Maddock Universe.

Director Aditya Sarpotdar has clarified that Thama is not your typical horror-comedy. Instead, it leans more into a romantic comedy with supernatural flair, giving audiences something fresh for Diwali 2025.

Filming

  • Shooting began in December 2024 at Chitra Studios, Mumbai.

  • Production was briefly halted after Rashmika Mandanna suffered a leg injury, but resumed in March 2025.

  • The team recreated parts of Delhi’s streets and graveyards in Mumbai’s Film City for key sequences.

  • Later, the crew shifted to Ooty, Nilgiri Hills, and Dodabetta forests, which added a chilling yet magical atmosphere to the movie.

  • By May 2025, major portions featuring Ayushmann, Rashmika, and Nawazuddin were wrapped up.

  • Special dance numbers featuring Malaika Arora and Nora Fatehi were shot in July 2025, followed by Varun Dhawan’s cameo shoot, which only took six days.

Music

Music has always been a highlight in Maddock’s horror-comedy films, and Thama is no different. The soundtrack is composed by Sachin–Jigar, known for creating peppy dance numbers as well as soulful romantic tracks. Fans can expect a mix of catchy songs, haunting background themes, and festive beats.

Release Date

Mark your calendars! Thama is set to hit theaters on 17 October 2025, just in time for Diwali. With its star-studded cast, supernatural theme, and festive release date, the film is already among the most awaited Bollywood releases of 2025.
